Time for Gratitude – Thanks to TOI WriteIndia Season 1!

It’s been a while since I have written.  In fact, it’s been more than a month since I have written my last post on What I Learnt from the worst teachers of my life?

So today, I sat down to definitely write something.  But as usual, since there was a break, I wasn’t getting the flow of words.  So I read a few blog posts from fellow bloggers.  Most notably this piece from Smitha “When words desert you?”

It was a nice read for the day and it made me a bit nostalgic because it made me think due to the questions at the end of the post and write some comments.

When I became nostalgic and also simultaneously checking social media (I usually tend to do that), I noticed that today was TOI WriteIndia season 2’s passage announcement.

So it made me even more nostalgic.

The Reason.

Roughly a year and a half ago, I tried my hand at fiction writing.  I wrote some couple of stories.  They were good according to readers, but still I wasn’t satisfied.  Then I heard of the contest and tried my hand at writing for the contest based on the passage given by a famous author.

Then I wrote this short story “A letter from the death bed” based on the prompt.

I believe, it is one of my best works to date.

The confidence this short story gave to me as a writer is immense and I am always grateful to that.

I am more grateful to this entire initiative “TOI Write India” which helped me discover the better writer in me.

But as usual, I felt lazy or rather constrained to just write for the passage.  So I didn’t write any further from the future passages.

Now I saw that this month’s passage is from Sudha Murthy mam, I thought I should write.

I don’t know the reasons, but somehow I felt so.

So the passage is

Life is an exam where the syllabus is unknown and question papers are not set.

So, this month, I am planning to write for this contest.  And I also felt the need to thank them and show my gratitude in the form of what I do best (Writing).

It’s been a tough month professionally as well as personally.  With lots of pending work, I believe I still can write the short story and submit within time.

  1. Thank you Raja for linking my post to your writing. I read the short story that you had written last year and I was hooked…great considering my attention span. 😊. You wrote from a girl’s point of view. 👏👏👏and such a beautiful message. It could be made into a movie. It would be sad but would be a hit.

    1. Hey, thanks a lot for taking time to read my short story. And I’m glad you liked the story. And your words mean a lot. Dream of every fiction writer is to see their stories on screen..
